As the world moves towards a decarbonised and net-zero economy, governments, businesses and individuals are required to work together and play our part to rise above the challenges we face. Businesses play a crucial role, along with governments, and we have seen many corporations committing to net zero targets by mid-century. Integrating ESG elements into business practices will play a critical role in producing long-term value for business resilience. However, in order to scale up and appeal to more investors with credibility, ESG investing requires a more solid structure and explicit rules and principles. Initiatives such as the UN Race to Zero campaign and the Science-Based Targets Initiative aim to develop such a structure to guide business strategy for a climate-changed world. This will enable better decision-making on how to incorporate ESG considerations into investment strategies while minimising risk and increasing profitability.
