Hong Kong's Tsim Sha Tsui is literally translated as "sharp sandy point".

The Kowloon Peninsula was ceded to Britain under the convention of Peaking in 1860. With Tsim Sha Tsui being the closest point to Hong Kong Island, fragrant timber was shipped from area to the Island, Canton and other cities. What began as a port, developed into a railway terminus and one of the world's busiest in 1960s.

The Kowloon-Canton Railway eventually moved to Hung Hom in 1975 and Tsim Sha Tsui became a major spot for shopping centres and tourists.
