If you're a non-tech founder and need to get a website/app built, these are some points to bear in mind:

• Get references and see the work that any prospective developer has done.

• You have to keep track of the work.

• Not knowing how to develop websites and apps, you get a lot of jargon. I’ve tried to learn. But you obviously have to rely on the developer. There’s more to building and hosting a website or app than you may think.

• If things are not working out, change developers – sooner rather than later.

• Protect your IPR.

• There is now no-code software available in the market that can help non-tech people build websites.

• When you build or upgrade your website/apps, testing has to be thorough. It’s boring but you must be thorough.

• There are obviously initial and ongoing costs.

• If you have a tech and non-tech co-founders, they can complement each other.

• A number of developers also teach website and app development courses which promise work to the course attendees after completion of the course. Be careful here. If you outsource your work to such a developer to build your website, you may find that work on your website is done by inexperienced people who have just been on their courses. Keep track of the quality of the work.

You may be able to think of more points to check.
