When all you need is a stick a GoPro and a brain like a sieve, here is a video of me catching a stingray barehanded.

from the angle that the GoPro filmed, it looks like I grabbed the stingray by the eyes but there is actually a hole behind their eyes with an outflow from their gills(i think) or maybe that is their gills but in front of the outflow/gills there is a small groove that you can safely grab also, to properly hold the tail you grab it right at the base so that it cant whip around. Even though this was a sorta small stingray it still had a barb large enough to do some serious damage so always be careful if you have to handle one.
