To defy Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime was extremely dangerous. Inside Germany there were a number of acts of resistance against the Third Reich, but there were even more in Nazi-occupied territory. The Second World War saw the German Army conquer a huge amount of land quickly, by over-running countries such as Poland, France and Greece.

Today however we look at an act of resistance against the Nazi's that took place in Yugoslavia. During 1941, Yugoslavia was taken quickly during World War 2 by Germany and from this two resistance groups emerged, the Chetnik's and the Partisans. These two groups had very different ideas, however one Partisan commander would be remembered in infamy for his bravery and outspokenness seconds before his execution.

Stjepan Filipovic was a young commander of the Partisans who during the Second World War was captured by the Chetniks and then turned over the the Nazis. He endured interrogation and refused to give any information to the Germans about Partisan activity. For this he was sentenced to death, to be hung in Valjevo where he was captured. However what Stjepan did seconds before his execution has lived in infamy as a heroic act of resistance.
