Solid Mahogany brass bound military box, the box would have originally been a surgeon's box. Today they are used as a desk top box for letters or as described in our video as pistol box for antique firearms, to name just two options for this very usable and beautiful box.
It is made with brass bindings that even go across the underneath of the box illustrating its true quality and solid construction. There is a shield shaped cartouche inlaid to the top complimenting the brass escutcheon which houses the working key.
The box opens 180 degrees and has been professionally re-lined with a hand marbled paper, creating an attractive, sophisticated and clean interior. The box is in excellent condition with an attractive polished finish. 16 1/2" (41.25cm) wide x 7" (17.5) Deep x 2.5" (6.25cm) tall while closed.
