In 1945, Berlin was no longer a functioning city. Years of relentless bombing, followed by weeks of brutal ground combat, had reduced the German capital to ruins. Entire neighborhoods were flattened, infrastructure collapsed, and civilian life was pushed to the edge of survival.

This film documents Berlin in the immediate aftermath of the war. It shows a city physically destroyed and socially exhausted: streets buried under rubble, buildings torn open, and millions of people left without adequate housing, food, or basic services. The destruction was not limited to military targets. Homes, factories, railways, hospitals, and government buildings were all consumed by total war.
