Why is Shikamaru the 8th Hokage?
The Boruto manga never ceases to surprise us and the changes seem to be more real than we had imagined.
As we have been able to observe in episode 1 of Boruto Blue vortex, after the expected time jump, some things have changed in Konoha due to the latest events.
With Naruto in the dimension created by Kawaki it was expected that the changes would be irrefutable until his return, although this may not happen since apparently Naruto is dead?
I know what you're thinking, but let's take a good look at this.
We are led to believe this theory in the first instance, and nothing less with the most shocking news for the Naruto fandom. There's a Hogake change.
That's right, as you hear it, if you're a big fan of the series you're aware that this power figure is probably one of the most prominent in the Shinobi world.
In the absence of the seventh Hokage, a new boss has been appointed for Konoha and some have been pleasantly surprised and others a bit confused and even annoyed to see who it is.
The manga shows us Shikamaru Nara as the eighth Hokage. A character with a great trajectory since the beginning of the series and who has always shown a predisposition to do the right thing to protect the village. Even during Naruto's performance as seventh Hokage, Shikamaru was his right hand, always present for him, both as a colleague, strategist and friend.
But
Was this to be expected?
Was it a logical decision for the plot?
We know that the position of Hokage has always been filled by Shinobis who were exceptional in combat, Hshirama or Minato Namikaze himself, and this is what leaves a little doubt about Shikamaru's role in this plot.
Alright, let's go by parts.
The first thing you need to know is that Shikamaru has always been a good leader, that is, although much of the time he showed a more lazy than active personality, he is a prodigal strategist, even from an early age, mastering to perfection the Jutsu of his clan, the possession of shadows, and respectfully following the footsteps and legacies of his senseis. Trying to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Let's remember that out of the 12 from Konoha, Shikamaru was the only one to be promoted to Chunin at the time, and also that both Asuma and Temari pointed out on several occasions that Shikamaru could be a good Hokage.
Perhaps this was all an easter egg by Kishimoto to get us used to the idea. It should be noted that Shikamaru was always one of Kishimoto's favorite characters, and that for example he had planned to have him originally win the Chuunin exam tournament if it had been completed. So, it's no surprise that he was the one chosen for such a renowned role.
This position has not been entirely a gift to Shikamaru, admittedly, he has always been a well-rounded ninja in terms of developing strategies, which have also served him well in his combat performance.
He has even been able to confront and win over enemies such as Akatsuki, and lead various shinobi squads to victory, both in missions and in the times of the great fourth shinobi war. His role as an outstanding leader and his ability to make crucial decisions at critical moments did not go unnoticed.
Shikamaru's evolution from brilliant strategist to Hokage is a development that illustrates his character's continued maturity throughout the series. His transition from being a strategic genius in the shadows to assuming the prestigious position of leadership is testament to his personal growth and unwavering commitment to the protection and prosperity of his home village.
But this flies in the face of some of the reasons the anime and manga let us know for choosing the Hokage.
Especially because it used to be said that the Hokage should be perhaps the strongest shinobi in the village.
And if we look at the 7 previous hokages, they all had special qualities in different levels of jutsu and battle specialists, which made them reach the merit of being heroes in their time and consequently, the shadow of fire. At first glance, there is a clear difference in power between Shikamaru and the rest of the Hokages.
In addition, there is also the particular situation of logic that this has in the manga. An example of this would be when the fourth Hokage passed away, at that time, since there was no designated successor, it was the third Hokage who took the place, even, 14 years in the future and in his old age, Hiruzen Sarutobi occupied the position until his death.
So, while Shikamaru is a very capable ninja, is he good enough to be Hokage in every way?
For some fans, it made more sense for the position to be held again by the former sixth Hokage, Kakashi Hatake, who is still old enough to be the leader of Konoha. We all know that Kakashi is also a skilled strategist, as well as a lethal ninja in combat.
