In this video, you'll learn how to link properties to automatically retrieve data from parts and assemblies. We’ll also cover how to customize drawing templates.

SOLIDWORKS drawing documents use the `.slddrw` extension, drawing templates use `.drwdot`, and sheet formats use `.drwdrt`.

Templates are pre-defined documents, including part, drawing, and assembly files, that contain user-defined parameters and serve as the basis for new documents. You can maintain various templates, such as:
1. Templates for millimeters and inches
2. Templates for ANSI and ISO dimensioning standards
3. Templates for detached drawings

You can customize drawing sheet formats to align with your company’s standards. Note that SOLIDWORKS-provided formats do not conform to any standard, so creating custom formats is often necessary.

To avoid losing custom formats when installing SOLIDWORKS service packs, store them in a separate directory. Custom sheet formats can include geometric tolerances and surface finish annotations but do not support leaders.

Drawing templates can include notes that link to properties, extracting information from parts, assemblies, or drawings. System properties are automatically available when inserting a note, and you can enter custom properties in the Custom tab of the Summary Information dialog box for the relevant document type.
