How to prepare wood to be painted with watercolor and gouache (Tutorial, Part 1)

Painting on wood can be tricky, so I've made a tutorial how I prepare the wood slices to be painted on. This is a process I explored and improved over the last few months and which creates results, that make me happy.
In part 2 of the tutorial I will explain what I do and which products I use to seal the slices, so they can be enjoyed for a long time to come.

On sunandcolors.com you can visit a watercolour library with swatches, informations about the pigments and properties of the paints as well as the results of a lightfastness test. This grew into a community project and I'm very happy to share my findings with fellow artists.
