This is a short treatment outcome awareness video of case of Bone cancer of pelvis (Chondrosarcoma) from a pre-existing osteochondroma (extra bone growth which is benign) and transformed to a bone cancer.
Chondrosarcoma are slow growing bone cancers. A core needle biopsy was performed to confirm diagnosis. Early presentation is vital for best results, since the pelvis region has lot of space for tumour to grow, expand in all planes.
The cancer was detected incidentally due to few months of pain, while patient had swelling since childhood previously.
Adequate removal of cancer is vital (since surgery is the only effective treatment for chondrosarcoma). A part of pelvis bone (complete ilium) and part of sacrum bone was removed adequately, while a nail cement spacer was used to reconstruct the connection between pelvis and spine.
At 5 years of follow up he is comfortable and leading a healthy life.
