The Journey!

It was dark, quiet, and 11 p.m. at night. Everyone, including myself, was sound asleep. I heard my familiar cell ring tone and fumbled about to turn the thing off. Two seconds, a wrong button pressed later, and there was no choice but to own up and answer the damn thing as best I could.

-Hello?

-Hey Slava where are ya?

I looked up and around. Lampposts whizzed by at blinding speeds and illuminated the interior of the bus only slightly. I had no idea where I was. Of course, as luck would have it fate intervened.

-"Coming up on Ft. Myers, FL."

The driver's voice was thick with indifference.

-Ft. Myers, Mike.

-Listen Slava, I was thinking, we can't have you going back and forth on a bus for a day straight with no sleep for interviews.

I was fading in and out of reality.

-I'd have gone further to meet Angelo, Mike.

-You know, Frankie Randall used to live around Ft. Myers.....

I was so far gone I wasn't even sure if Marley said, "Randall," or "Swindle."

-Oh Yea.....

He could probably tell I was half asleep and barely listening.

-Call me tomorrow Slava. Bye.

I looked up and around the bus. Everyone, including the hot slim brunette in slim to none clothing, that I purposefully sat in front of, was asleep. I closed my eyes and dozed off again. Soon after inertia shoved me an inch or two forward.

We stopped. The doors opened, and the driver announced, "Ft Myers," before running to take a whiz or purchase a delicious refreshment.

The bus stood in the middle of a gas station parking lot, next to an Arby's and an Adult video store.

I sat up and took out my video camera and looked at a few portions of the interview with Dundee.

It was remarkable. Marley, the guy who as a thirteen year old kid took fifteen plus hour rides to Toronto to watch Muhammad Ali spar, was trying to talk me out of basically doing the same thing.

The bus doors closed with a hiss.

We were roughly an hour away from West Palm Beach, the comfy leather couch I was crashing on, and my friend's little molesting dog that humped everything in site.

At least somebody got some that night.
