Tripod TV Stand | My First Furniture Project

Описание к видео Tripod TV Stand | My First Furniture Project

In this Video I’m making a TV stand for my new tv. It’s made of oak wood and has three legs plus a extra space for a soundbar. It’s the first piece of furniture I’ve build.

I started this build because of my new TV in a new living room. I thought I need something special, not that ordinary tv on a sideboard. After some research I loved these 3 leg designed stands. These are also available directly from the tv manufacturer, but selfmade is waaaaaay better and more fun! So I started to make a plan in a program named SketchUp and I made sure to insert all the correct measurements, starting from the final stand height and a minimal feet angle to have enough stability for a 50" screen. I printed my plan from there and then ordered the pieces of oak wood. Luckily I had the possibility to have them cut and planed to the sized I needed.
I then put all measurements on the wood planks and cut them with the mitre saw, a hand-held circular saw, a hand saw and my japanese saw. all together I had to prepare 5 pieces. Three legs and two top pieces where one is for the tv and the other for a soundbar. I refined the cuts where the top pieces will sit with a chisel to have it accurate and sanded the legs where the circular saw left scratches. I removed the stand from my tv. This model has a stand built up from two parts and the lower one will be removed in the final piece. I made a plan on the top plate where the screws will sit and build some custom spacers so that the tv won't stand at an angle. After drilling all the holes for the dowels to connect the pieces the glue up started. I made one leg at a time and clamped it with the help of some scrap wood pieces. Then I had to close some little gaps in between the pieces. I got them because using a hand drill for the holes and it'll never be 100% exact the way I did. After the tv stand is cleaned, sanded with different grid of sandpaper and sealed with a mineral oil. I chose mineral oil for a finish to have a natural look on the final piece and make the wood grain pop. There's something like a bad taste word called "oak rustic" in german, but I think with this finish I got a modern look and I really love the beautiful grain of oak. Then I only needed to screw on the tv and enjoy the view since then. I hope you like my first furniture build!

Please note that I don't give any guarantee this will work for your model of tv. It's a very individual made piece, but I wanted to share since I'm very proud it came out so nice!

Also if you work with power tools I use in this video make sure to look for your safety. It's at your own risk. This video is a documentation of how I build this.
