The Town Victoria West is founded under the name Victoria, named after Queen Victoria
Victoria West is a charming small town situated in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Its history dates back to 1844 when the Dutch Reformed Church acquired a farm in the area and named it after Queen Victoria. However, in 1855, the name was changed to Victoria West to avoid confusion with another district in the Eastern Cape. Currently, the town has a population of approximately 11,000 residents. Victoria West is renowned for its thriving sheep farming industry, which contributes to the town's economic success. Visitors to the town can also enjoy various attractions, including a nature reserve, a museum, and an exceptionally preserved print shop that was constructed in 1876.
