Overview: Pocharam Dam & Reservoir
1.Location & History
The dam, often referred to as Pocharam Reservoir or Project, was constructed between 1916 and 1922 on the Allair River, a tributary of the Manjira, to serve irrigation and drinking water needs in the Medak–Kamareddy region.

2.Design & Features
A traditional masonry dam with water that overflows gracefully during monsoon, creating a natural waterfall effect—sometimes called a “road of water.”

=A popular picnic, fishing, and camping spot, especially just after the monsoon season when the water is full and views are most dramatic.

3.Wildlife & Heritage
Adjacent to the dam is the Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1952 over approximately 130 km². It supports a range of wildlife, including deer, sloth bear, jackal, nilgai, and many bird species like painted storks and open-billed storks.

4.Getting There & Best Time to Visit
Distance: Approximately 110–120 km from Hyderabad, and about 15–20 km from Medak.
Route: Accessible via NH7/NH44 with a scenic drive past paddy fields and rustic villages.

Timing:
The reservoir is at its most picturesque during and just after monsoon (September to January).
The wildlife sanctuary typically welcomes visitors from 8 AM to 6 PM.
