This video was created to raise awareness on the issues of skin whitening and to encourage others to take action against colorism. Part one tackles the history behind India's obsession with fair skin and the ways that this obsession continues to prevail in modern-day India.

About Me:
I'm an Indian-American girl who's seen the effects of colorism firsthand on my many trips to India. I remember seeing advertisements for fair skin as a child, and not understanding why my skin tone was conveyed as inferior when compared to lighter skin. As someone with a dusky complexion, I've had relatives comment on how I've 'gotten darker', and I've even had fairness creams suggested to me a few times. None of it was with any ill intent, but it made me feel conscious of my skin color.

Now that I'm older, I'm confident with my skin color. But I know many other people feel like their skin color is inferior, so I decided to bring awareness on the subject of colorism in Indian population. I hope that this video accomplishes that objective.
