10. Walls of Jericho

Walls of Jericho Trail is a heavily trafficked trail located near Estillfork, Alabama that features several waterfalls and is rated as difficult. The descent into the valley switchbacks between huge moss covered boulders and along Turkey Creek as the walls of the canyon become increasingly narrow, ending in a beautiful waterfall that pours into an underground cavern.

9. Welti Falls

Welti Falls is an impressive cascade just off of I-65 east of Culman, AL. This beautiful waterfall was created from the spillway of Forest Ingram Lake and flows over the rock face creating an unexpectedly large waterfall.

It's just under 1/2 a mile walk to this beautiful hidden waterfall and a little over an hour drive north of Birmingham.

Beware this is private property and the owners have been towing vehicles that park on the side of the road.

8. Falling Rock Falls

Falling Rock Falls is located within the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge near Montevallo, Alabama. This scenic trail has an easy rating and is 1.8 miles out and back. It's perfect for all skill levels. While hiking the Falling Rock Falls Trail, you'll encounter lots of scenery. However, it's the 90-foot waterfall at the end of the trail that makes the hike well worth it.


7. Peavine Falls

Peavine Falls is an approximately 65 foot tall, spring fed waterfall located at the top most ridge in Oak Mountain State Park. There are many trail options for you to choose from to reach the falls, so be sure to plan your route before you arrive. It’s a steep climb down to the falls base, but rewarding to play in the pool of water below.

6. Collier Creek Falls

This waterfall in located in the Bankhead National Forest and was once the site of a large gristmill. Two huge stone columns approximately 20 feet high held a waterwheel and are still presently intact. The columns date back to the early 1900’s.

5. High Falls Park

Marvel at the scenic vistas and majestic waterfall at High Falls. The centerpiece of High Falls Park is the 35-foot waterfall. Formed by Town Creek, the falls span some 300 feet across at times. Near the base of the impressive High Falls is a natural bridge. This 25-feet span of rock features a large arch, eroded by the flow of water over hundreds of years.

4. Desoto Falls

DeSoto Falls is a 104-foot waterfall located on the West Fork of the Little River near Mentone, Alabama, in DeSoto State Park. The falls have carved their own small canyon.

The best time to see the most water flow is usually in Spring, late Fall, & Winter. Take the trail less traveled and fight your way over rocks, fallen trees and thick brush to the base of Desoto Falls for an incredible view.

The most popular feature of Little River Canyon National Preserve is Little River Falls. At 45 feet high, Little River Falls demonstrates the power of water, with Little River carving it's way through the sandstone bedrock and creating the beautiful canyon surrounding it.

One of the most recognizable, and arguably the most photographed, waterfalls in the Bankhead National Forest is Caney Creek Falls in Double Springs, Alabama.

The Caney Creek Falls Trail will lead you to this stunning 30 foot-tall waterfall spilling down over the top of a rock ledge into a mesmerizing turquoise pool. The rock ledge is deep and tall enough for you to walk behind the curtain of water. This waterfall is also one of Alabama's best swimming holes.

1. Noccalula Falls

Originally known as Black Creek Falls, Noccalula Falls is now named after a Cherokee Indian girl whose tribe lived along the Black Creek near the great falls. According to legend, as the girl grew into her formative years, she fell in love with one of her fellow villagers.

Even thought the object of her affection was a strong courageous warrior, Noccalula's father, the village chief, did not think the man was worthy enough to marry his daughter.

Instead, the father arranged for Noccalula to marry the wealthy chief of a nearby village. To help ensure his daughters cooperation, the chief banished Noccalula's true love from the village.

Young Noccalula was distraught, but at her father's insistence, she continued preparations for the upcoming wedding.

Finally, the day of the wedding came. But as Noccalula was being dressed by female relatives, she knew in her heart that she only loved one man, and it was not who she was about to marry. When Noccalula had a few minutes to herself, she snuck away from the celebration towards the falls.

When her father and crowd noticed her at the falls, she leapt from the top for all to see.

The wedding guests were horrified, and Noccalula's father filled with remorse, believing that he had driven his daughter to her death. In his grief, he proclaimed that the falls would forever be known as Noccalula Falls in honor of his daughter who died for love.
