Manjushri (Mañjuśrī) is the Bodhisattva of transcendent wisdom (prajñā), one of the most revered figures in Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna Buddhism.
In the sutras, Mañjuśrī appears as a disciple and interlocutor of Shakyamuni Buddha, explaining the profound teachings of emptiness (śūnyatā).
According to Tibetan tradition, Lake Manasarovar was created by a blow of his sword, opening up the Kathmandu Valley to make the earth habitable.
In China, he is associated with Mount Wutai Shan, a place of pilgrimage where he appears to devotees in various forms. He embodies awakened intelligence, which is not cold and analytical, but united with compassion.

Om A Ra Pa Ca Na Dhih

Om: Sacred vibration that connects to universal awakened nature.

A Ra Pa Ca Na: Five syllables symbolizing perfect wisdom and the elimination of illusion.

A: All things are empty from the beginning.
Ra: The nature of all phenomena is pure.
Pa: The cessation of illusion leads to peace.
Ca: Wisdom is born from direct experience.
Na: Ultimate understanding is not destroyed by time.
Dhih: Seed syllable (bīja) of Mañjuśrī, concentrating his wisdom energy.

The virtues are:
Increasing intelligence and memory.
Clarify the mind during study and meditation.
Developing an understanding of emptiness and interdependence.
Cutting the roots of ignorance, the root cause of suffering.

Mañjuśrī embodies the truth that compassion must be guided by wisdom.
Without clarity of mind, compassion risks becoming lost in confusion; without compassion, wisdom becomes sterile.
Her mantra is therefore a key to uniting right vision and an open heart.

Traditionally, a mantra is repeated 108 times, or in multiples of 9, during meditation, while thinking about the virtue of the chosen mantra. Repetition can be done aloud, quietly, or silently.
