With no dig it's easy to keep replanting though the season, so that soil is buzzing with life. We have regular harvests and weeds grow less. Leaf cover is varied and plentiful.
During winter the soil is mostly dormant and has a living cover of compost. There are also some plants which offer winter roots and leaves.

Two sowing ideas for mid to late autumn cover crops / green manures:

1 Mustard Synapsis alba, sow mid September to mid October,and this mustard is killed by frosts below -3 to -4C around 25F; or you may need to remove the weak plants in early spring. We show you an INTERPLANT idea with garlic & shallots - Adam Woods ‪@myco_ad‬ is dibbing into 10 day old mustard, then planting garlic cloves into 8 day old mustard.

2 Broad or field beans can be sown later, even until mid November, but will not grow large in winter, and this is for milder climates only. If they survive winter, cut at ground level before planting in spring.

A third option is to keep ground covered with vegetables. Some grow through winter, and you can also spread compost around / under plants like broccoli and Brussels sprouts. After a final harvest of any vegetable, the soil is mulched with compost and is never bare.
