What does “mission” mean, and why can certain meanings be problematic? What’s the connection between mission and racialization? And does mission need to be decolonized?

Join Ibi and Inzwi for an engaging Bible study, exploring some of their own reflections and inviting you to explore more questions. This is a Bible study that leaders could use again in their own contexts!

Ibi Chuan (he/him) is minister at Cranbrook United Church, BC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education and a Master of Divinity from Yu-Shan Theological College and Seminary in Taiwan. Ibi is a proud member of the Bunun Tribe, an Indigenous people in Taiwan. His journey from his Bunun Tribe to being a minister of the United Church enriches his analysis of the problem of mission.

Inzwi Munikwa (she/her) completed her undergrad degree at McMaster University last April. She is currently assisting staff on coordinating Indigenous-Racialized Youth programs, including building youth leadership capacity and providing mentoring to Indigenous-Racialized young scholars. As a pastor’s kid, she brings a racialized Gen-Z lens to understanding the problem of mission.
