Nevzat Akay was a Turkish composer and Classical Turkish music artist born in Kanlıca, a neighborhood of Istanbul's Beykoz district in 1915 to Mehmet Bey and İffet Hanım. Her father played the oud and kanun, while her mother played the violin. She showed an early interest in music, and her family recognized her talent, providing him with her first music lessons. She received theoretical and rhythmic lessons from Santuri Ziya Bey and later took music lessons from masters such as Sadettin Kaynak and Yesari Asım Arsoy. In 1939, Nevzat Akay won an audition at Ankara Radio and began singing on the radio. In 1940, she also passed the exams of the Istanbul Radio, where she worked for a while before resigning to pursue a career in the music industry. She recorded over 100 records and became famous for her powerful voice and her performances of gazelles, especially those with lyrics written by her wife, Sami Akay. She composed "Ararım Seni Her Gün Derdine Yana Yana," a song with lyrics by Sami Akay in the rast makam and düyek usul. Nevzat Akay passed away at the age of 54 in Istanbul on February 14, 1969, and was buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery. She donated her inheritance to Darüşşafaka, a charity organization in Turkey.
