Ramani Balabhadrapatruni was born Ramani Ankaraju on 26 January 1964 in Hyderabad, India. Her parents are Ankaraju Anand Bhushan Rao and Ankaraju Sathyavathi Devi. She got her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985 from Kasturba Gandhi College in Secunderabad.

Ramani’s entry into literature started in 1993 with poetry and a short story "Mullabata" which was published in Vipula, a monthly magazine of Eenadu. Her first novel "Thrupthi" was published in Chatura, another monthly magazine of Eenadu.
