Just as Steven Medved named my Diaphragm the "True Tone" I am providing a name for Mikes, (phonoboy) the "Full Tone". This has all been in a long time coming. When I got into collecting Edisons an Records again there were diaphragms on line for sale on Ebay and in attempting to hear the records as I knew they were but couldn't find any thing that came close, most were simply thin cardboard with a glued on string. Needless to say after about 10 seconds I shut the phonograph off and decided shortly after that to begin task of figuring out how to put together a diaphragm that bought out all the details without distortion and the instruments were clear and full sounding. I had a lot of tries and sent some out to collectors here for their opinions. Most were able to tell as things progressed if the versions were a step forward to my search. Finally after a couple years of all sorts of materials I hit on the foam material that I could shape and test the various ideas. with. Probably some where around 10 years ago the True Tone was named and the sound was leading the way to hearing your records about as close to original as had been around. By this time also I had a blog going and reported the progress and failures it took. My real overall goal was to encourage others to provide equally good sound and several sent me their attempts for quite a few years. Some got tired of trying I suppose but a few others kept testing ideas.. I am happy to say that Phonoboys latest version is quite striking for its full sound and well balanced tonal qualities. I am going to make videos of his using the new diaphragm with all types of music. so you can hear quality Edison Sound. I will say that being in person is some better yet in person.
