ORYX Photo Tours has long sought out the destinations that offer you the best photographic experiences, and we are proud to now offer the biodiversity hotspot that is Ecuador. As the name implies, this Latin American nation straddles the equator, and packs into its borders truly astounding species richness – in fact, we visit an area that is widely regarded as harbouring the highest biodiversity for a single region on the entire planet; it is theorised that this area, known as Yasuni, is home to the highest biodiversity that has EVER existed on planet Earth! Here we will explore the Amazon Rainforest on foot and by way of boat, photographing species such as Giant River Otter while cruising the placid backwaters of a blackwater lagoon, and various parrots and macaws at clay licks near our lodge. Walking through the forest we will have a large range of macro subjects to photograph, especially so at night!

The Amazon is where we conclude the latter half of our tour, however after departing the high-altitude capital of Quito, we begin our journey by heading to the west slope of the Andes. Frequently bathed in clouds, resulting in much of this high-altitude forest being called “cloud forest”, this region is also spectacularly biodiverse.
