Welcome to Cookie's Critters.

In todays video, we demonstrate how to setup a Lifetime enclosure for a Blue Tongue Lizard (Blue Tongue Skink). As a minimum, we recommend providing a 4x2 foot (120x60cm) enclosure. As Blue tongue lizards aren't great climbers, the height of the enclosure can be limited to 1 1/2 feet (45cm) tall. We have used a 5x2x2 foot enclosure in this video for demonstration purposes.

The heating source is crucial for blue tongue skinks, we use clear basking lights for day time heat and the lighting gets switched off during the night. We also prefer to offer our blueys UVB in the form of a 5-6% T5 UVB. We believe that UVB is critical for keeping blue tongue lizards in captivity. UVB converts the calcium that we supplement in our blueys food into Vitamin D3. Substrate is a keepers preference, we like to use Eucalyptus mulch or pine shavings. Other suitable options are Aspen bedding, Chipsy, ReptiBark, Straw and Hay.

Loose substrates allow the blue tongue lizard to burrow under the substrate to feel safe and secure. Using butchers paper and news paper isn't ideal for the requirements of blue tongue lizards.

It is important to provide the bluey with at least one, but ideally two hides in the enclosure.

Water bowls and food bowls should be positioned at the cool end of the enclosure to prevent increased humidity from the water and the wet food drying out too fast.

Decorations such as fake plants can also double up as hiding places for the blue tongue lizard.
