This is my maximum-yield cherry shrimp breeding tank—designed specifically to produce tons of high-grade shrimp with minimal effort. 🦐✨

It’s compact, efficient, beginner-friendly, and incredibly low maintenance. In this video, I walk you through exactly how I set it up and why it works so well.

💡 I used black 4mm gravel to increase surface area for algae and biofilm growth—both of which are excellent natural food sources for cherry shrimp. The darker substrate also helps the bright red color of the shrimp really pop!

🧽 Filtration is handled by a USB-powered sponge filter with a built-in pump. It’s whisper-quiet, shrimp-safe, and perfect for nano tanks. I added extra sponge inside to make sure even the tiniest baby shrimp don’t get sucked in.

🔆 For lighting, I’m using the Seaoura SR616 on full brightness for 6 hours a day—not to grow plants, but to intentionally grow algae. Algae = free shrimp food. Over time, the tank developed a rich layer of algae and biofilm all over the glass and gravel.

To cycle the tank, I used Dr. Tim’s Ammonia Solution and followed the “dark start” method—no light, no plants, just letting the bacteria do their thing. After about a month, the tank was ready.

By Week 6, algae was thriving. I added my first high-grade cherry shrimp, and within days they were grazing, molting, and clearly settling in. By Week 8, I spotted the first baby shrimp.

Now in Month 3, the colony is exploding with new life—just as planned. This setup is proof that you don’t need a fancy aquascape or CO2 to create a successful breeding environment.
