Hi, this is Scott with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at and installing our CURT class III hitch on our 2017 Volvo XC90. Our CURT hitch on our Volvo today is gonna be a hidden cross tube design, so you're not gonna see your cross tube or anything hanging out the back. The only thing you're really gonna see is just the receiver. It's hanging down out of the bottom. Now this is gonna be a black gloss powder-coated finish on this one, so it looks really good and it kind of matches our trim that we have on our Volvo.
This is gonna be a two inch hitch, so it's gonna accept most of your common accessories that are out on the market. This is gonna be a pretty heavy-duty hitch, so if you plan on hauling some heavy e-bikes or quite a few bikes on here, or even a cargo carrier loaded down with a bunch of gear, this is gonna get it done for you. This one's gonna also be able to do some towing. So if you plan on doing some towing with it, it's a really nice option as well. The Volvo's really popular vehicle and they're really nice and it really doesn't take away a lot of the look from the vehicle at all.
Another nice thing about this one is it's always gonna be accessible. There are some out there on the market where you can remove the receiver out of the bottom, but this one's always gonna be here. So if you plan on using it all the time, maybe you're biking a lot or you do a lot of camping and have some extra gear on the back, this one's gonna fit the bill. This hitch is gonna have a 5/8 pinhole opening, and that's gonna hold in any of your accessories that you put on your back of your vehicle. Now this one won't come with a pin and clip, so you may want to pick one up here at etrailer.
Or keep in mind, a lot of your accessories out now may have one with it, so do keep that in mind. Now as far as your chain loops, these are a heavy duty welded-on design, and these are gonna accept either your S-style hooks. So those are gonna work really good for you. Or your clevis style will work as well. You just have to move it around a little bit to get it to go on there.
But those work really well. Either of those are gonna work for your trailer towing needs. As far as measurements go for this hitch, from the center of the pinhole out to the edge of our bumper, we're looking at right at around, right around three inches for that number. And with that number, you'd be able to decide on if any of your accessories that fold up or stow away will make any contact with the back of your vehicle when you do fold those up. Now from the ground to the top inside of our receiver tube, we're looking at right around 14 1/2 inches. And with that measurement, you'll be able to decide if you need any rise of the shank of your cargo carriers, or your bike racks. As far as weights go for this hitch, we're looking at a tongue weight rating of 900 pounds, so that's gonna accommodate your large bike racks with a bunch of bikes on it, or a few of your big, heavy E-bikes are also gonna work for that. As far as gross trailer weight rating, we're looking at 6,000 pounds. Now that's going to be the weight of your trailer and everything that you have on that. Now keep in mind, it's always a good idea to take a look in your owner's manual and make sure you're not exceeding any of your maximum towing capacities for your vehicle. Now if you have any questions or comments about this hitch for your Volvo, feel free to get ahold of us here at etrailer. One of our experts will be glad to help you out. Now as far as installation goes, it's kind of tricky. You do have to take off the fascia, but it really isn't too hard to do. It's the fascias on these come off fairly easy, so it's something you can do in your driveway or in your garage with a buddy. Now if it's something you don't have time to do yourself, you can always take a look at our dealer locator and get something done for you locally. If it's something you feel like tackling yourself, stick around, watch our video, and we'll help you get it installed. To start our installation, underneath of our vehicle, we're gonna have four T20 Torx bits underneath that we're gonna need to remove. (drill whirring) (drill whirring) (drill whirring) (drill whirring) While we have our T20 bit out, we're gonna have five T20 fasteners behind our fender well on this fender well skirt
