Did you know that Derek has been heavily involved with a long-term project called Take Note related to music and dementia? The Take Note project provides 100 research-backed musical strategies for people who care for someone with age related cognitive difficulties. It exists as a mix of printed cards and free online resources. Derek and Adam have been working in care homes for many years researching and harnessing the power of music to support memory, communication, socialising and many other forms of wellbeing.

This recording, one of many made with Hannah Davey, the singer of Derek's jazz quartet, is part of a repository of well known pieces designed to be easily accessible.

Supporting and encouraging other people is a huge part of Derek's musical life, and the work he and Adam do proves that music is a uniquely versatile way to enrich the lives of those who may find other forms of interaction challanging.
