The Shanghai Salvage Company under the Ministry of Transport has successfully completed China's first simulated trial of a 500-meter-deep saturation dive after seven years of arduous and intensive efforts, said the ministry at a press conference held in Beijing on Tuesday.

The manned trial which simulated the condition of a 500-meter-deep water pressure dive began on May 22 this year and involved in a total of nine divers.

On May 27, the diving bell was pressurized to 500 meters. Nine saturated divers spent 176 hours at 51 atmospheric pressures and carried out various of simulated diving bell experiment projects. The diving bell was further pressurized to 502 meters on June 3.

On June 25, the nine divers stepped out of the diving bell and received full body checkups. Their reports showed that all divers were healthy and stable in various physiological and psychological indicators, which was in line with the expected goals of the experiment.

"This means China has successfully completed the first trial on 500-meter manned saturation dive. This also indicates that China has become one of the few countries able to conduct saturation diving down to 500-meter depth. Next, on the basis of this experiment, we will arrange to carry out a 500-meter saturation dive test in sea at a proper time," said Wang Lei, director of the rescue and salvage bureau of the Ministry of Transport.

The success of the 500-meter land-based test has greatly enhanced China's deep-water complex emergency response capabilities, especially those of deep-sea complex operations such as emergency rescue, shipwreck salvage, sunken objects search and environmental salvage, and enhanced China's power of discourse in marine economic activities.

交通运输部上海打捞公司周二在北京举行的新闻发布会上表示，经过七年艰苦卓绝的努力，交通运输部上海打捞公司成功完成了中国首次500米深饱和潜水模拟试验。

模拟500米深水压力潜水条件的载人试验于今年5月22日开始，共有9名潜水员参与。

5月27日，潜水钟被加压至500米。九名饱和潜水员在 51 个大气压下度过了 176 小时，并进行了各种模拟潜水钟实验项目。 6月3日，潜水钟被进一步加压至502米。

6月25日，9名潜水员走出潜水钟，接受全身检查。他们的报告显示，所有潜水员的各项生理和心理指标均健康稳定，符合实验预期目标。

“这意味着中国成功完成了500米载人饱和潜水的首次试验。这也表明，中国已成为少数能够进行500米深度饱和潜水的国家之一。接下来，我们将在本次实验的基础上，适时安排进行海上500米饱和潜水测试。”交通运输部救助打捞局局长王雷说。

500米陆基试验的成功大大增强了我国深水综合应急能力，尤其是应急救援、沉船打捞、沉船搜救、环境打捞等深海复杂作业，增强了我国在海洋经济活动中的话语权。
