Static water meters, those which do not use mobile components to sense the flow, are becoming the preferred choice of many water utilities around the world. At present, most static meters are based in the well-known ultrasonic and electromagnetic principles, although other technologies are available in the market and more may emerge in the future.
Water utilities find obvious advantages to using this type of meters.

However, it is important to realize that, like any other measuring instrument, they have limitations associated to their working principle and construction characteristics. Static water meters may not be the most convenient option depending on the circumstances and should not be identified with the solution that solves all problems related to metering. This presentation will discuss how different working conditions and external factors may affect the accuracy of static water meters when measuring customers’ consumption.
