New Jersey worker's compensation attorney Sam Gaylord discusses how it is determined whether you qualify for social security disability.

First, a judge will look to determine whether you are doing work that qualifies as "substantial gainful activity". As of 2013 to 2014, this is defined as work that earns you over one thousand forty dollars per month. A social security disability judge will also look to see if you have a specific impairment, that is, a medical condition that meets the requirements.

The judge is also going to look at whether you can perform the type of work you used to do, and how you used to do it. If you can no longer do that prior work, the next question is whether you can do any other work in the national economy, taking into account your disabilities, your age and what you used to do. If not, then it is likely you will be entitled to Social Security Disability. Watch the video to learn more.
