Versarien PLC (AIM:VRS, OTC:VRSRF) CEO Steve Hodge speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive London after the advanced materials engineering group announced its latest short-term fundraise.

Hodge talks about his ascent to the CEO role from within the business before going on to discuss his plans to stabilise the company amidst various challenges, including the unexpected departure of the former CEO.

Hodge highlights the company's efforts in cost-cutting and strategic realignment, emphasising his transition from a scientific to a more commercially focused role. Versarien's recent endeavours include small equity raises aimed at funding working capital and bridging to new opportunities. The CEO noted a significant reduction in cash burn and expressed confidence in future strategic actions.

The company's strategic focus is currently on construction, particularly graphene-enhanced low carbon concrete, and 3D construction activities, alongside ventures in leisure and the launch of the graphene-enhanced thermoplastic portfolio. Hodge also mentions the importance of licensing opportunities, particularly in graphene production and 2D materials, as part of their short to mid-term strategy.

Versarien is actively seeking grants and contracts, aligning with its commercial strategy, including decarbonising concrete. The company has also been selected to meet Axiom Space's advanced materials team, reflecting potential opportunities in the space sector.

Despite challenges, Hodge believes Versarien remains a strong investment opportunity, citing its scientific foundations, integrity, and innovative pipeline.
