ColorWheel Art is thrilled to present to you Master Ku, one of the most renowned "Lingnan Style" (嶺南畫派) Chinese painting gurus in Asia. Tune in every Saturday at 8 am (U.S. PST time zone) to learn and appreciate the art of traditional Chinese painting!

In each week's youtube episode, Master Ku will teach you easy to learn drawing principles and step-by-step practical techniques of Lingnan style Chinese painting. So what is Lingnan Style? It is a style of painting developed in the southern region of China in the late 19th century. It was influenced by Western impressionism, and uses bright, vibrant coloring and expressive freestyle strokes to reveal the exquisite details and spirit of the drawing to the audience. Lingnan style is revolutionary and innovative, contrasting with the traditional Chinese ink wash painting.

In this week's 10-minute workshop, Master Ku will demonstrate the basic techniques of drawing one of the coveted "Four Gentlemen", the Orchid. You will learn how to use just a few controlled brush strokes to portray orchid flowers from different perspectives, and how to vary pressure on the paintbrush to create turning and bending in the orchid leaves. Mixing blue-colored ink to create a special "mood" is one of the features of this workshop.

The orchid represents springtime. Watch, feel, and learn how to bring orchid's elegance, humility, and nobility to your artistic world!
