Footage of the Cuban Premier Fidel Castro and guests at a large party which he threw at the Hotel Theresa in Harlem.

Castro had left the plush Shelburne Hotel in mid-town Manhattan for the Hotel Theresa after a disagreement over money. The Hotel Theresa, the "Waldorf of Harlem", was an important centre of Black American life and Castro was deliberately attempting to shift the world's focus on America's "race problem".

He said later that “by going to a Negro hotel in a Negro district, we would be making a double demonstration against the discriminatory policies of the United States of America toward Negroes, as well as toward Cuba.”

Along with Castro were the following members of the Cuban delegation:

. Antonio Núñez Jiménez, Director of the National Institute of Agrarian Reform
. Juan Almeida Bosque, a Commander of the Cuban Insurgency that led to the overthrow of Fulgencio Batista.

One of Castro's first guests was Malcolm X, then a prominent figure in the Nation of Islam. Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev also paid a visit.
