Formula Atlantic race at Indianapolis - SCCA Runoffs 2021

Описание к видео Formula Atlantic race at Indianapolis - SCCA Runoffs 2021

The Formula Atlantic (FA) race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 2021 SCCA Runoffs.

I was driving my 2013 Phoenix F1K.12 F1000 race car, which races as an FA these days. This video follows me from when I leave the garage before the race, continuing for the entire race, and ending when I return to the garage after the race. Thanks to Sean for the video from the garage to the grid, and thanks to the SCCA for several clips from the live stream sprinkled throughout to provide context.

Sadly, there were only about six green-flag laps. The first full-course yellow (FCY) was caused by two cars colliding in T10. The second FCY, and eventual early checkered flag, was caused by rain starting midway through the race. Afterward, the race director called everyone in the FA class to a meeting, where he apologized for the actions of one of the operating stewards with regard to the rain. The operating steward had ended the race early, but the situation should have been handled differently: most teams, including ours, had rain tires staged in the hot pits, and we would have pitted for those tires had we not seen the checkered fly that lap. What should have happened was that the race was continued under green after people started pitting, or at the very least, the race should have been black-flagged (to give everyone a chance to change) before resuming under green.

Oh well. Was still fun getting to drive the Brickyard!
