Cannon County Walking Horse Association Annual Labor Day Horse Ride 2024 - The Short Hot Walk

Описание к видео Cannon County Walking Horse Association Annual Labor Day Horse Ride 2024 - The Short Hot Walk

I set up my camera(s) along Seal's Hollow Road to record all the riders as they make their way up to North Short Mountain Road...

This year there were less riders. I suspect no one wanted to participate due to the HEAT and there was the threat of thunderstorms later on in the day.

People often ask me where to find the ride videos and I always respond with "Do a Google-search with the name of your event and you will find them!"

Some people look at me with wonder, or curiosity...

"What's that strange, quiet, little white-bearded man doing over there?"

"Why is he recording us riding along the road like that?"

"He just smiles and nods... Maybe giving a thumbs up as we rode by...."

I do not talk or say, "Hello!" that much because I am recording and that's a LOT of riders to say "Hi!" to during the filming... Do you want to hear me say "Hello!" a hundred and fifty times or more in a video? HAHAHAH! I prefer to collect the sounds of laughter and the "Clippity-Clop" of horse hooves and YOU saying "Hello!" to me! HAHAHAHAH!...

A funny thing happened at the tail end of this ride... As the last group of riders was passing by a gentlelady offered me a greeting and I nodded as I typically do and she said with some concern...

"Oh, you can't talk?"
I shook my head, "No."
"C'mere", she says...

I walk over to her and she very politely asks me if she can touch my beard. Another gentlelady joins her. They both study my beard carefully and one says to the other -

"Well? Is it real?"
"Yep. It's real."
"John? You LOST!"

They both get a good giggle out of the whole affair and continue on their journey after thanking me... Following behind them was a final couple, with the woman stating,

"I''m going to go ahead and apologize for my Mother and my Aunt!"

Hysterical.

I don't have any unusual or mysterious motives behind documenting these rides other than to say that it is a joy to watch the horses and people... All those friends and family having such a grand time is a very good thing! The videos are my way to support the ride.

I very much want to actually ride along instead of standing on the sidelines... I think it could be a cool experience to film.

Have this memory and freely share it!

The annual event which is held in Woodbury, Tennessee sees the horse and rider travel all the way up North Short Mountain Road. I enjoy watching the horses as they make their way up to the Horse Camp.

Cannon County Walking Horse Association is a nonprofit organization located in Middle Tennessee in the rolling hills of Cannon County. CCWHA offers use of a campground, trail riding, and weekend ride-a-thons to its membership. The Cannon County Walking Horse Association was established in 1940 when a group of local horsemen and friends gathered together for a trail ride. Their purpose then and now is very simple - enjoy horses, trail riding, camping, friends and community. Today, the CCWHA owns 400 plus acres, for the sole purpose of riding equine. This land contains scenic views, deep hollows and miles of wooded trails. The terrain is very versatile, accommodating riders from beginners to the experienced, as well as thrill-seekers. An average of 300 plus riders, including wagons and buggies, make the traditional Memorial and Labor Day Ride-a-Thons on the county roads leading to the campgrounds. The CCWHA also has an annual ride and fun day in the summer and fall.
