Some 60 mesh copper screen was coiled and put in a cut section of quartz straw sort of thing bought on eBay for smoking. There's a half piece of a silicone jar used for the cap also bought on Ebay and silicone tube to connect the two pieces of glass.
The copper screen provides surface area and stores some heat as well. In a previous test the cap sometimes makes/transmits a faint noise sometime, reminiscent of a pop pop sound, the steam and screen reverberating off the flexible silicone cap that springs a little forward and back with the pulsations sort of like a diaphragm. Another interesting sound was when a tiny balloon was used to cap one end of a straight tube design. You could hear the snapping and popping of droplets of water flashing to steam, the sound easily traveling through the thin latex balloon to the open air.
