Travel to the location marked on the map, and then sprint Torrent towards the cliff at the marked corner. Right before you would ride off to your death, press L3 to jump back towards the rocky cliffs. If you did it properly, then it will say to use a Flask of Crimson Tears to revive him: select Yes.

The next part is very important or else you might mess up the glitch. Start walking towards an elevation higher than you (in this case some rocks), and as you are about to go up in elevation, call Torrent.

You can now use the world's geometry to ascend higher. Make sure you do not press the jump button while flying or Torrent will get stuck. Now you can use this exploit to access the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Grand Lift of Rold early.

I haven’t been to the Grand Lift of Rold before, so I was blindly sprinting around on Torrent before just deciding to go into the Grand Lift area.

I used this flying glitch to get all the Bell Bearings in the Mountaintops of the Giants and Crumbling Farum Azula early so that I could upgrade different weapons to see what I liked. This is still my first blind playthrough and I only completely cleared Limgrave and Caelid.

If you want to get into the Crumbling Farum Azula early, then you need to rest at The Four Belfries Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes (South of the Kingsrealm Ruins), then use the Imbued Key to access the teleporter to get to the Crumbling Farum Azula. Once you’re there, fast travel back to the Perfumer’s Grotto Site of Grace but DO NOT REST(the cave is North of the top of the Stairs when heading East from Altus Junction Site of Grace)! Exit the game, and then from the main menu select Continue, and now you’ll be on the bridge to enter the Crumbling Farum Azula. Thanks to Joe Stewart’s comment on how to do this.
