Nadine Shah, 'Topless Mother' @ Hammersmith Apollo, London 21.10.23

I've never actually seen a Nadine Shah set! I didn't go to any of Suede's 'Coming Up' tour in late '21/early '22 as I was still too scared of crowds and Covid. Nadine was the support act on that tour and I understand I missed a fabulous partnering. I did see her perform as part of 'Songs in the Key of London' in March '22 at the Barbican. I remember her striking performance of 'Mile End' and then she came out to duet with Brett Anderson for 'Europe is Our Playground' with her big booming voice competing with Brett's soaring vocals.

So it was a treat to learn that Nadine was supporting Young Fathers at this grand show. She was delightfully weird and I loved hearing her huge voice for 40 minutes. This song is the first single off her latest album and is so catchy and strange. Go Nadine!
