He went through the war as a tankman, commanding a crew in the 22nd Guards Tank Brigade of the 5th Guards Stalingrad Tank Corps. Participant in the Battle of Kursk, the liberation of Kyiv, and the winter campaign of 1943-1944 in Ukraine. Nominated for the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, awarded military orders and medals.
