A mature oak tree weighs around 10,000 pounds. Where did all that mass come from? Not the soil. Not the water. Not the minerals.

Almost the entire physical mass of a tree comes from an invisible gas floating in the atmosphere — the stuff you exhale. A 10,000-pound oak is, in the most literal sense, solidified air.

And it doesn't stop at trees. The carbon in your muscles, your bones, your brain was atmospheric CO₂ not that long ago. As Feynman put it — knowing what's actually happening doesn't flatten the experience. It deepens it.
