As the afternoon sun cast a warm glow over Seville, I began my walk at Plaza de Santa Marta, a small yet charming square, enclosed by whitewashed walls and orange trees, this hidden gem felt like a peaceful retreat from the city’s bustling streets. The soft fragrance of jasmine lingered in the air, and the quiet ambiance made it the perfect starting point for my evening stroll.
Leaving the tranquility of Santa Marta, I made my way through the winding streets of the historic center, heading towards Plaza de la Encarnación, home to the striking Metropol Parasol, also known as Las Setas (The Mushrooms). The square was alive with energy—tourists climbed to the top of the modern wooden structure for sunset views, while locals gathered beneath its shade, enjoying the early evening breeze. Cafés were buzzing with conversation, and street performers entertained crowds, adding to the lively atmosphere.
From there, I continued my walk along Seville’s famous shopping streets, where the city’s energy was at its peak. Calle Laraña, Calle Tetuán, and Calle Sierpes were packed with people browsing high-street brands, local boutiques, and artisan shops. The scent of leather from fine Andalusian shoe stores mixed with the sweet aroma of pastries from traditional bakeries. Shoppers carried bags filled with gifts and fashion finds, while groups of friends and families paused at cafés for churros con chocolate, the classic merienda (afternoon snack). The golden glow of street lamps reflected off the cobblestones, enhancing the magical feel of the evening.
As I continued towards my final destination, the streets gradually became quieter, leading me to the serene beauty of Plaza de San Lorenzo. This historic square, home to the Basilica del Gran Poder, had a more relaxed and intimate atmosphere compared to the busy shopping district. Locals sat on benches under the soft glow of streetlights, enjoying the cool night air, while the scent of orange blossoms lingered in the background. The illuminated facade of the Gran Poder church added a sense of timeless elegance, making it the perfect place to reflect on the walk and soak in the charm of Seville at dusk.
From hidden plazas to bustling streets and peaceful corners, this evening stroll through Seville had captured the city’s perfect blend of history, culture, and everyday life.
