NCIS: Origins executive producer and narrator Mark Harmon reveals why his son, Sean, will not return as Young Gibbs. NCIS: Origins, which will air on CBS in just a few days, is the franchise's first prequel. It follows Leroy Jethro Gibbs throughout the early 1990s. Sean Harmon is participating behind the scenes in the new program, but he will not appear on camera. Instead, Bridge of Spies actor Austin Stowell takes on the starring role.
Harmon explained to Variety, ahead of the launch of NCIS: Origins on Monday, October 14, at 10 PM ET on CBS, why Sean would not reprise his role as Young Gibbs in the prequel. Even though Harmon portrayed Gibbs in the main series and is credited with creating the premise for NCIS: Origins, the senior Harmon stated that his son is interested in other things and likes executive producing.
