Trapping and Identifying House Sparrows

European House sparrows are an invasive species here in North America that have a negative impact on our native bird species. Species like our beloved Bluebirds and Purple Martins.

Sparrows outcompete and even kill our native birds for their nesting spots since they are cavity nesting birds. In this video I compare results of two different traps, a live rat trap and a Van Ert trap.

I also go through simple tips to help identify house sparrows so that no native birds accidentally pay the price if you decide to start trapping invasive birds as well.
