Pros:
With many Test matches already ending in four days, reducing Tests to 4 days of 98 overs seems like a natural, evolutionary step. It brings significant financial benefits to host boards by lowering costs on ground maintenance, logistics, staff, and security. Broadcasters and sponsors also benefit from a more predictable, time-bound product, helping drive ad revenue and scheduling efficiency. For financially weaker boards, 4-day Tests could be a lifeline, making it easier to host a 3-Test WTC series.

Cons:
However, there are red flags. Over rates are already poor — teams struggle to bowl 90 overs, let alone 98. Player adaptability may suffer, as switching between 4 and 5-day formats can disrupt rhythm. And with weather interruptions already a factor, a shorter Test match format would be even more vulnerable to rain delays.
