The International Energy Agency reports global energy investment is set to hit a record 3.3 trillion dollars in 2025, with the pursuit of energy security a key driver in investment growth.
Investments in low-emission technologies now double those of fossil fuels. However, investments in new coal generation hit their highest level since 2015, with China starting construction on nearly 100 gigawatts of new coal-fired power plants in 2024.

Politico reports at the U.S. Geological Survey, researchers are taking part in so-called hackathons to develop machine-learning tools to accelerate the hunt for critical minerals.
Scientists are using AI tools to comb through old paper maps to digitize the data and search for new insights into what's below the surface. Geologists say it’s shrinking a process that can take years down into a matter of days.
