Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban forces exchanged heavy fire along their shared border late on the night of December 5. Afghanistan said that the border clashes killed four civilians and injured four others. In Pakistan, three people suffered minor injuries in the border town of Chaman. The Taliban claimed that Pakistani forces launched attacks in Spin Boldak, while the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused Taliban forces of “unprovoked firing” along the Chaman border. The latest clashes followed a fragile ceasefire agreed upon after deadly clashes in October, which killed 70 people.
