What is Repo Rate, Reverse Repo Rate and CRR | REPO RATE | Reverse Repo Rate | CRR | Bank Rate

In Feb 2022, the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) Monetary Policy Committee headed by the RBI Governor will decide the Repo, Reverse Repo rates & CRR.

What is Repo Rate?
Repo Rate is the rate at which the RBI lends money to licensed commercial banks to maintain liquidity and to fulfill business requirements. RBI repo rate is the most important policy interest rate in India.

RBI reviews the repo rate from time to time as part of the monetary policy review. Generally, monetary policy fulfills two objectives – Keeping inflation under control and accelerating economic growth.
10th Feb 2022 – RBI keeps Repo Rate unchanged at 4.00%

RBI has kept the repo rate unchanged to 4.00%. This has been done to limit the damage to the economy caused by the second wave of Covid-19.

What is Reverse Repo Rate?
Reverse Repo Rate is the rate at which the Reserve Bank of India borrows money from commercial banks( Public & Private Sector Banks). It is a monetary policy instrument that can be used to control the money supply in the country.
10th Feb 2022 – RBI keeps Repo Rate unchanged at 3.35%.

What is Cash Reserve Ratio(CRR)?
Cash Reserve Ratio is a certain minimum amount of deposit that the commercial banks have to hold as reserves with the central bank(RBI)
10th Feb 2022 – The current Cash Reserve Ratio(CRR) rate is 4.00%
