Cadiz is located in southwestern Spain, it is the capital and principal seaport of the Cadiz province of Andalusia. It is situated on a long, narrow peninsula extending into the Gulf of Cadiz, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean.

Historically, Cadiz is believed to be the oldest city in Europe, with its origins dating back to around 1100 BC. It was founded by Phoenician merchants from Tyre as "Gadir," meaning "an enclosure." The city has been occupied by various civilizations over time, including the Carthaginians, Romans, and Visigoths. The Romans significantly contributed to the city's prosperity, and the discovery of America in 1492 marked a new era of prosperity for Cadiz as it became the headquarters of the Spanish treasure fleets.

The city has a rich cultural heritage, with landmarks such as the old and new cathedrals, San Sebastián and Santa Catalina castles, numerous museums, and the Torre de Vigía, a signal tower in the city center. Despite its historical significance, Cadiz faced challenges, including a loss of trade following the loss of the Spanish colonies in the Americas.
