People are always asking me what tires I like. That is a tough one. In general I like new tire! The Dunlop AT81 tires are coming on a lot of the bikes I have been buying. It’s Dunlop’s best, and pretty much only, off road tire. It’s a decent tire and probably works much better on the east side of the US. Out here in the western US, we have so many rocks and sharp edges, they break down pretty quickly. The problem with Dunlop is that they perform really well for the first little bit, but they break down faster than a lot of the other tires. If you are sponsored by Dunlop, you don’t mind because you have a great performing tire for 10 hours and then you swap it out. For the rest of us though, we can’t always afford to do that, so it leave us looking for a tire that lasts a bit longer, but still isn’t like putting a piece of iron on our rims.

That is where the Bridgestone Battlecross tires come in. For me, these tires have been working pretty well. They are a good balance of performance and longevity in a tire. The X-40 is the Hard Terrain tire, the X-30 is the Intermediate terrain tire, and the X-20 is the Soft Terrain. The only one I have not used is the X-20. The 30 and the 40 are great for the locations I ride most of the time. If you haven’t tried them, maybe you should.
